Biography

Jan Bondaruk, Deputy Director for Environmental Engineering in Central Mining Institute - National Research Institute (CMI-NRI), Katowice, Poland.

Expert in the field of regional and energy sector transformation, environmental engineering, sustainable development, the transition process in mining and carbon-intensive areas, implementation of eco-innovation, environmental protection programming, technology in water and wastewater management, waste management based on circular economy principles, and development of R+D+I projects aligned with green economy and national smart specialization. Actively involved in projects and initiatives dedicated to the practical implementation of the principles of the circular economy in industry and the municipal sector, as well as cross-sectorally. Responsible for implementation of eco-innovative solutions in industries and administration, capacity building, transfer of good practices and applicable knowledge. Intensively involved in a wide spectrum of preparatory work related to the transformation and diversification of the economy of mining regions within the Coal Regions in Transition Platform working groups and other foras.

Member of expert teams evaluating projects in the field of innovation, environmental protection and revitalization of degraded areas including among others Group of Experts on Coal Mine Methane and Just Transition – Task Force on Just Transition affiliated by UNECE and Supervisory Board of the Association of Coal Communities of Ukraine.
